Great Clips has built its brand around fast haircuts at an affordable price with no planning required. With customers increasingly engaging Great Clips via mobile devices, we worked together to build a new experience—carefully styled to cut through the hassle of waiting for walk-in service—that has been a welcome new look.

Measuring GREAT®, one cut at a time.

Recognizing the importance of maximizing haircut volume while simultaneously minimizing customer time in-salon, we devised a North Star metric that quantified how effectively the mobile app and website check-in experiences could stay true to its core purpose of supporting reliably great customer experiences. Coined "Monthly Great Experiences", our metric was defined by the confluence of multiple key signals of a great customer visit, where the app or website played a role in that customer outcome.

Making in-salon waiting a thing of the past.

Great Clips customers value convenience, speed, and affordability. They want an affordable haircut on demand at a convenient location, with no advanced planning required. And they want that same efficiency from the in-salon experience, avoiding long wait times and getting in and out of the salon quickly, while looking great.

Livefront redesigned the online check-in experience for the Great Clips mobile and web apps with these customer goals in mind. The new experience allowed customers to quickly select a location, compare wait times at nearby locations, get added to the waitlist, and see their estimated wait time. The Great Clips mobile and web apps allow customers to remember their favorite locations and previous salon searches, expediting the check-in process, and allowing users to check into a salon with as little as two taps or clicks. What's more, customers enjoy the freedom to hold their place in line without needing to wait at the salon.

A home just for you.

Previous iterations of the Great Clips mobile app put a map-based search interface at the center of the experience. While this was helpful for new customers who hadn't yet established a preference for a Great Clips salon, it left behind opportunities for meaningful personalization for established customers with a preferred salon in mind. To enhance the user experience and streamline the check-in process, we worked with Great Clips to redesign the home screen with personalization for every user—whether new or returning—dynamically showcasing recommended salons, minimizing the need to search, and making the check-in process more efficient than ever before.

Creating scalable partnership promotions.

Great Clips has strengthened its brand by partnering with world-famous sporting events. Packed arenas and stadiums, national television audiences, and social media buzz around these events put the Great Clips brand in the spotlight at massive scale. In order to extend these brand moments from the arena to the Great Clips digital experience—and ultimately into the salon—we partnered with the Great Clips marketing team to create an extensible in-app promotion kit. The scalable and configurable framework enabled the marketing team to quickly define and launch home screen banners, native opt-in forms, and other promotional elements to bolster the continuity between the brand experience in the physical world and digital realm. These activations were impactful for the brand too, significantly driving in-app engagement, downloads, and sweepstakes entries that wouldn't have been possible otherwise.
