Envisioning the future through design.
Forging the future of product design with the largest Apple MDM provider.
In service to the Apple ecosystem and those who rely on it, Jamf is an increasingly important part of many peoples' lives. Jamf manages and secures more than 27 million devices for 62,000 organizations including 9 of the top 10 largest companies in the Fortune 500. Noting a profound increase in client expectations related to the design of their product experience, the executive team at Jamf sought out Livefront. We helped them push their design and product strategy forward by reimagining how they show up creatively in and across their products as they grow with—and for—the people who love them.
Auditing for strength.
With impressive historical and forecasted growth, the purpose of our engagement was not to shore up a strategy that wasn't working, but rather build upon an incredibly successful foundation to position the organization for ongoing success, leveraging our expertise designing and building consumer-facing digital products at scale. Beyond our research of Jamf's experiential competitors' digital offerings, we conducted interviews with product teams and executive teams, stood up demo environments of the existing Jamf product suite and platform, immersed ourselves in Jamf's flagship conference (JNUC) strategic announcements and other company/product presentation artifacts.
Move fast and don't break things.
Jamf was excited about Livefront's spirit of bringing a startup's velocity and perspective to their thinking about product design. Executives asked us to work in a vacuum for a very tight window of time, the goal from which was to bring forward a high-level future vision concept to executives that wasn't overtly influenced by what had already been done internally. In this way, they could capture outside design and strategy expertise, grounded in an understanding of their business, but without disrupting the ongoing priorities of the day-to-day working teams.
I come to every meeting and have my expectations blown away every time. In the best way. The output by your team is prolific.
Visuals as vision.
With our design principles carried forward, we presented high-level conceptual mock-ups of what a "future Jamf" could look like, brought to life through a series of design artifacts including a few full-screen mock-ups and individual design components. Design concepts were intentionally high-level, absent of exact executional or operational details, intended to inspire conversation and leave executives wanting more...eliciting, for the winning concept, the response "I want more of this in our future... what's next?"
Sweetening the suite.
The primary consideration for Jamf was the number of applications in their product suite, how they related to one another, and how customers inside various configurations of their platform could easily navigate between the almost limitless number of permutations of product application configurations. We brought fresh thinking to not only the methods by which consumers could navigate application switching, but to the naming, organization, and visual identity of the application icons themselves, rethinking the experience entirely to improve usability and the joy of using the products.
From standalone products to symbiotic capabilities.
Jamf grew from startup to IPO with a flagship product at its core, and additional complementary products introduced alongside it over the years. We helped Jamf lean into a new strategy anchored to where they were going as a platform and eschewing where they came from as a single-threaded application. We helped Jamf design around the idea of components and structures that could be reused across applications, but more importantly, we helped think through how products related to one another, where they would intentionally overlap, and where (and how) they would pass experiences and data between them to create a seamless experience for the consumer, while allowing Jamf to educate and upsell around their bundled platform approach to pricing.
Design everywhere.
The experience people have with Jamf happens across many touchpoints, not just the primary product interface. We helped create a vision for how design would come to life across native macOS products, email notifications, desktop web apps, native mobile apps, desktop and springboard widgets, and marketing websites. Further, beyond device modality considerations, we gave special emphasis to accessibility of font sizing (dynamic type), color contrast ratios, and dark mode support.
